VICTORIA FALLS
The best-known attraction on a Zambian holiday is of course Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya – “the smoke that thunders”. Located near Livingstone, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest waterfall by volume and is recognised as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
On the mighty Zambezi River which separates Zambia and Zimbabwe, the falls are 2 km wide with a drop of 100 m. A host of adrenalin-pumping thrills – such as bungee-jumping, microlight flights, helicopter rides and swimming in the Devil’s Pool – can be experienced by adventure-seekers.
For a magnificent bird’s eye view of the falls, walk across the footbridge, through swirling clouds of mist, to Knife Edge Point.
Other highlights include horse-back safaris and quad-biking.
Just upstream from Victoria Falls one can enjoy fully-inclusive morning, lunch and sunset cruises on the African Queen or African Princess. Be spoilt by spectacular views of the Zambezi River and surrounding game reserves.
